SKATE EXPO
Race number, timing chip and packet pick-up will be held in conjunction
with the Skate Expo Friday, August 14th, 2009 at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in St. Paul, 11 East Kellogg Boulevard. The Expo is open
from 11:00 am to 7:00 pm. Representatives from the skate industry,
charities and other companies from all around the nation will
be there to exhibit, sign autographs, answer questions, do
giveaways and… just have fun. You must attend the Expo
to pick up your packet and timing chip.
The Expo is free and open to the public and will include
representatives from Rollerblade, The Sports Authority, K2, Comcast, RollerBob, Pioneer Press,
Special Olympics Minnesota, Bont, Nistevo, Powerslide, Tru-Rev,
Rollerdome, Adam’s Inline, the U.S. Speedskating
Team, NorthShore Inline Marathon, All Sports Skin Suits, Minnesota Inline Skate Club and more. This will give you a great opportunity
to preview the course as well.
*Please remove your skates before entering the hotel.
ATHLETE BREAKFAST OPTIONS
There will be limited food service available in the lobby of the Crowne Plaza on race morning. You may also find it wise to stock up on food the night before, as breakfast options in Saint Paul will be very limited at that hour on a Saturday morning.
PARKING
Downtown parking maps are available here. Convenient parking ramps are: inside the Crowne Plaza Hotel Parking Ramp (located at Kellog and Wabasha), the Victory Parking Ramp (located at Wabasha and 4th), and the Science Museum Parking lot located on Kellog across from the XCEL Energy Center.

RESULTS
Results will be posted within 24 hours of the last finisher. There will also be receipt results available at the finish area.
TIMING
The Saint Paul Inline Marathon will be using AMB
Transponder timing by Prime Time Timing (mat-less chip system).
Your Transponder chip can be picked up on AT THE EXPO THIS YEAR. They will also be available at the start line starting at 6:30 am and We suggest all Pro Men, Pro Women
and Advanced Men be ready, timing chip in hand by 6:30-6:45 am and all other categories from 7:00 am
on. This Transponder chip must be returned at the end of the
race as you leave the course. If you do not skate or finish
the race, please turn in your Transponder at the finish line.
Thank You. Any Transponder not returned will cost you, the
athlete, $100.00.
GETTING TO THE START AND TRANSPONDER (CHIP) PICK-UP
Please wear shoes, as the two streets accessing the start area, Jackson and Sibley, are quite steep. Put gear in a SMALL backpack and be at the start area NO LATER THAN 6:40 am for the Pro Men and Advanced Men and NO LATER THAN 7:15 am for all Pro Women, Advanced Women and all OPEN Division skaters. Access to the race start area is limited so please be on time.
GEAR BAGS
Plastic gear bags are provided inside your race packet for shoes and warm-up
clothing. Your bag must be tied securely and placed in the appropriate truck. Race officials will do everything they can to pick up lost or left gear, but are not responsible for any lost or stolen items. Do not place any valuables or sharp objects in your
bag. Bags have been known to open, so please do not bring valuable
or cherished clothing. Please be patient at the finish line,
it takes time to sort and retrieve bags. WE WILL MAKE EVERY EFFORT TO GET YOUR GEAR BAG TO THE FINISH LINE IN TIME. IF IT IS NOT THERE, PLEASE BE PATIENT.

We have the following racing category definitions:
PRO ELITE
pro open skaters
There are no age divisions in cat 1.
PRO MASTER
pro skaters age 35-44
There are no other age divisions in Pro Master.
PRO VETERAN
pro skaters age 45 and over
There are no other age divisions in Pro Veteran.
ADVANCED (ADV)
advanced skaters
Age-class awards will be awarded in the advanced division.
OPEN (Formerly FITNESS/RECREATION)
For OPEN division skaters please find the volunteer with “wave start” signs and enter gate according to the race number series listed on the signs.
10 MILE TOUR
This is a timed "tour" event geared toward family fun, fitness as well as for those skaters looking to try a skating event or aren't sure about the full marathon distance.
Waves and categories have been assigned by past performances or your estimated time. We cannot allow wave or category changes at race packet pickup!
If you have a question, please visit the Saint Paul Inline Marathon information booth. The rule of no gender cross drafting will be enforced in the PRO THROUGH ADVANCED categories only.
SKATER BIB AND RACE PACKET
This packet contains your number-coded bib. The large
bib should be pinned to your LEFT THIGH. Please
affix the small sticker with your number on it to the FRONT
of your helmet. Do not fold or alter these numbers, as they
are important for identification. Please remove or cover any
old numbers on your helmet. These numbers may not be not the same
as your transponder number. Important: There
is a tear off tag on the bottom of your bib. This is for your
your finisher's shirt. If you don't like the way your shirt fits, please come back after everyone has finished and exchange your shirt.
TOILETS
Porta potties will be provided at the staging area,
at the water stations, and at the finish area. The future
of this race depends on participants respecting the property
and rights of area residents and businesses. Please use the
toilets only.

STAGING AREA
Most timing errors relate directly to starting in the wrong wave. YOU MUST START IN YOUR WAVE. We will be working hard to see that everyone is correctly placed. Signs held by volunteers will designate each wave grouping. Please be considerate of all skaters and start in the proper wave.
MEDICAL SUPPORT
First aid will be available on the course and just after the finish line. Ambulances and motorcycles will be on the course with medical personnel. Please move aside for these vehicles. It is imperative that they are allowed to move quickly and safely. All medical expenses incurred by participants are the responsibility of the participant.
SAFETY FIRST
Identification (race number), helmets and hand protection
are mandatory. Without a helmet and hand protection, you will be subject to
disqualification. Elbow and knee guards are highly recommended.
For your safety, please be aware that the roadways have storm
grates along the shoulders. For safety reasons, the use of
headphones, roller-skis, and ski poles are prohibited.
WATER
Water will be available at the start and finish areas
and also in water bottles at water stations along the course.
Please make a conscious effort to throw your water bottle
in the designated areas OR way off to the side of the course.
If you require more water, please carry water with you. This
helps to avoid congestion. If you slow or stop at a water
station, please stay off to the side water is being given
out. Please make every effort to discard water bottles in
the mile marker/trash barrels or carry it with you until the
finish. Bottles will be handled to you without caps so please
slow enough to grab the bottle. There will be no food or energy
replacement products on the course. Water stops are brought to you by the Minnesota Wild.
COURSE AND CONDITION
The roadway along Warner and Shepard consists of three types of roadway; freshly re-paved concrete, older concrete and older asphalt. Please exercise caution on the western most section of the race course (west of highway 35E) as there are some tar snakes. In addition, please exercise caution at all three 180 degree turnarounds (see map) and on the roadway heading towards the finish line (Sibley and 4th), as these are high traffic areas and may have minor road damage. Do not skate on the bike paths or you will be subject to disqualification. Expansion joints will be covered and tested for safety.
FINISHERS T-SHIRT
The shirts will be available to finishers only, and can be found after the finish line, just beyond the water and PowerAde station. Trade your tee shirt tear off tag at the bottom of your bib for your finisher shirt.
PROTEST
Should you have a protest; forms will be provided on the preliminary results board, found next to the Saint Paul Inline Marathon booth in the Race Village which can be found inside of Mears Park. All protests must be entered by 12:00 noon (Pro Men through Advanced must have their protests in before 10:00 am ) on race day. The race judges will resolve protests involving awards prior to the ceremony. All other timing problems will be corrected by the end of the race weekend.

Awards will be held in Mears Park at the pavillion between 10:30
am and 11:00 am. Awards will begin with Pro Open Men, Pro Masters Men, Pro
Veteran Men. Breaks will be taken during the award ceremony
as results for the following categories are completed; Advanced
Men, Pro Women, Pro Master Women, Pro Veteran Woman, Advanced
Women, OPEN Division skaters. Remember to bring
the tear off tag from your race bib for door prizes. Place
your tear off tag in the box located in the tee shirt area.
YEAR 2010 REGISTRATION
Registration for the 2010 Saint Paul Inline Marathon
will be available throughout the weekend.
